On January 21st, according to Counterpoint's monthly report on mobile phone sales, China's smartphone sales decreased by 3.2% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, becoming the only quarter in 2024 to experience a year-on-year decline.

Huawei has jumped to the top spot with a market share of 18.1%. Next are Xiaomi and Apple. This is the first time since the US ban that Huawei has regained its market leadership position. Huawei's sales increased by 15.5% year-on-year, mainly driven by the release of the mid-range Nova 13 series and high-end Mate 70 series.

Xiaomi has maintained strong growth momentum in the high-end and flagship markets, with its market share rising to 17.2% in the fourth quarter.

Faced with fierce competition from Huawei and other Chinese mobile phone brands expanding into the high-end market, Apple ranked third in the fourth quarter of 2024 with a market share of 17.1%.

From a full year perspective, China's smartphone sales increased by 1.5% year-on-year. This is the first increase since 2018.

Vivo still holds the top position in the market with a market share of 17.8%. Huawei followed closely with 16.3%, while Xiaomi ranked third with a market share of 15.7%. Next are Apple, Honor OPPO.

Looking ahead to 2025, Counterpoint predicts that the Chinese smartphone market will continue to maintain a low single digit growth trend.
