On February 8th, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released data showing that global semiconductor sales reached $627.6 billion in 2024, an increase of 19.1% from $526.8 billion in 2023. In addition, the sales revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024 was $170.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.1% and a month on month increase of 3.0%. The global sales for December 2024 were $57 billion, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the previous month.

In 2024, the global semiconductor market experienced its highest sales volume in history, with annual sales exceeding $600 billion for the first time. It is expected to achieve double-digit market growth by 2025 SIA President and CEO John Neuffer said, "Semiconductors support almost all modern technologies - including medical devices, communications, defense applications, artificial intelligence, advanced transportation, etc. - and the long-term industry prospects are very strong。

From the perspective of regional markets, in 2024, the annual sales of the Americas (44.8%), China (18.3%), and Asia Pacific/Other regions (12.5%) have all increased, but the annual sales of Japan (-0.4%) and Europe (-8.1%) have declined. In December, monthly sales in the Americas increased by 3.2%, but there was a decline in monthly sales in the Asia Pacific region/all other regions (-1.4%), China (-3.8%), Japan (-4.7%), and Europe (-6.4%).

With the increase in global semiconductor sales, it is expected that by 2032, the chip manufacturing capacity of the United States will double, putting the country in a favorable position to strengthen its supply chain and help meet the growing global demand. In order to maintain the leading position of the United States in the field of chip technology, leaders in Washington should promote policies to promote semiconductor production and innovation, strengthen the construction of high-tech talent teams, and restore the United States' trade leadership position.

SIA stated that in 2024, several semiconductor product segments will perform outstandingly. The total sales revenue of logic products is 212.6 billion US dollars, making it the largest product category in terms of sales revenue. Memory products ranked second in sales, with a growth rate of 78.9% in 2024, reaching $165.1 billion. As a subcategory of memory products, the sales of DRAM products increased by 82.6%, making it the product category with the highest growth percentage in 2024.
